stop having fun!

Who said we have to be grown up’s and behave sensibly all the time?

I often get FOMO (fear of missing out) when I watch my children play and end up just getting stuck in with them even though having my makeup done by a 5 year old leaves me looking like I have been in the coal mines all week crossed with more sparkles and glitter than a unicorn fart! We’ve had a family food fight with the squirty cream over dinner one night, a topsy turvy day involving pizza and ice cream for breakfast and I am proud to say I have completed every task on the National Trust list of things to do before you are 11 and three quarters!

As we get older the pressures of running a home, work, family commitments, children, making time for friends and maintaining romantic relationships can often lead to burnout - a far cry from having fun. Don’t let it get that far, or if it already has all is not lost. You can get your happy back.

Think back to what you used to love doing as a child and make a list of all these things - no matter how silly.

Are there any on the list that still sound appealing? Roller skating anyone?!

Now schedule that fun into your day … I know, I know, it sounds a bit like the fun police are doing organised fun heh! Trust me, think back to when you were a kid and you had to tidy your room but you wanted to go and meet your friend as they had a brand new pair of trainers (with lights!) that you wanted to see as they promised you could try them on. Your parents wouldn’t let you just do what you wanted, you had to do the task you had been asked to do first but you then got the reward of play! Do this yourself - finish a task then reward yourself with the fun thing you want to do e.g. finish that report you have been procrastinating over for a week then reward yourself by enjoying 20 mins on the new skateboard you have just brought (the one with the insanely cool artwork underneath).

Laugh more, play more and be more spontaneous. Give yourself permission to play every day.

Hugs

xx
