It wasn't easy—I wrestled with the idea that forgiving someone meant I was somehow condoning their actions or letting go of the boundaries I had worked so hard to establish. Forgiveness, I realised, isn't about absolving others of their wrongdoing; it's about releasing ourselves from the chains of shame, anger and resentment.
