2022 .. the year of growth
2022 ..a year in review
Pour yourself a drink - long post alert!!
JANUARY
I knew I was not in a good place and things needed to change. I was desperately unhappy in my job, which was impacting other areas of my life, but despite many efforts I was unable to make a change and felt hopeless and trapped.
I made the decision that I needed to find a career that allowed me to be me but most importantly be able to make a difference to others. The idea of ODODO was born - One Day Or Day One … you decide. I knew what I wanted the business to become so started to make plans on an exit strategy over the next 12-24 months.
FEBRUARY
This month was pretty much a month of illness between the four of us having colds, flu, covid and chicken pox!
MARCH
I was told my job was at risk of redundancy. Initially I was panicked as my exit strategy to set up my own business was a million miles from ready however, I started to look at the positive in that it was going to push me out of my comfort zone. It forced my hand to actually make solid plans rather than just setting up an Instagram account and website!
APRIL
I found Lisa Johnson! I started the One to Many program and this was my saviour. I had been procrastinating about what to do as I just didn’t have a bloody clue how to set up a coaching business. I was a certified coach giving free consultations as I ‘felt bad’ charging people when I had a well paid job. But this was now going to be my sole income so I needed to do a lot of mindset work about realising it’s ok to charge for the skills you have.
MAY
A lot of inner work. I was coming to terms with the major changes that were going to happen. I listened to my body and took time out to rest and process. I knew I was headed down the well trodden path to burnout again but understanding the triggers and signs now I took action quickly.
JUNE
I was placed on gardening leave as my redundancy date approached. This was a month of nurture with time spent amongst close family and friends, lots of time outside in nature and a renovation project to get stuck into with our lean to. All the time whilst investing heavily in developing new business skills and personal growth. It is this month that I came across the lovely Lauren Prentice who has taken me on my subscription box journey - shopping for lovely things as a living .. yes please!
JULY
Lots of beach time with the kids after school and morning sea swims, making the most of where we live. The corporate hangover was starting to lift and I finally started to feel like me again. I had a voice - of my own! Sounds daft but anyone who has worked a chunk of time in a corporate environment will understand!
AUGUST
I was officially made redundant. I set up my company through companies house and started to put into practice everything I had been learning. I’m no stranger to hard work but I can tell you the entrepreneurial route is not for the faint hearted! You have to wear so many hats and the learning curve is steep - especially social media content management and tech in general! I dropped the ball massively as this all coincided with school summer holidays.
SEPTEMBER
Subscription box event - This was my first in person training as a business owner. It felt so good to be around people with the same struggles and a wealth of advice. It was also my first exposure to a trade fair up at the NEC.
OCTOBER
I started the PR mastery course run by the incredible Nicola J Rowley. This was the missing piece of the puzzle with regards
confidence in putting my name out there. Nicola has such a kind nature that puts you at ease and quickly understands the essence of what you want to communicate. I so excited for all the new year plans through this course - January is going to be completely new territory for me but I’m excited!
NOVEMBER
I set up Elf and Wellness, a one off done for you Elf antics box for December. This was a trial run for me to test out all I had learned from Lauren. It was a huge hit and a huge learning curve including the joy of experiencing postal strikes! Resiliency and agility were definitely the key skills for November (think Ross from Friends getting everyone to move the sofa up the stairs .. pivot .. pivot .. PIVOT!!)
DECEMBER
A crazy month - my daughters 6th birthday, my 50th and Christmas!! We also took our first family holiday abroad which was scuppered with illness. Both the kids went down with different things, I had a chest infection and Andy was taken by ambulance to hospital! He’s ok now but most of the week was spent looking after poorly people in the hotel room or on the phone to insurance or the hospital. I did get to enjoy a little of the beautiful Tenerife sunshine, a massage on my birthday and the most incredible hotel staff who were just amazingly helpful with all that was going on.
Well I wasn’t expecting quite the year I’ve had when I woke up 1st January 2022!
All in all it has been quite a year of turbulence both emotionally, financially and mentally. I’m incredibly proud of what I have achieved so far and have been on the biggest learning curve of my life. Equally I have met some amazing people who have such kind hearts and high morals which for me is a non negotiable in my life.
2023 is going to be off the scale! I am ready with an incredible program which will launch very soon. It will be so transformative, I’ve put myself through it and had the biggest changes in my life.
Everyone seems to have picked a word for next year so I feel this year has been all about GROWTH so next year will be: ABUNDANCE across all 12 key life areas.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me in so many ways this year, I am incredibly grateful .
Wishing you, your family and friends the happiest of New Years and I can’t wait to get to know you all better over the coming months.
Huge hugs
Tara
